Creating awesome Web 2.0 apps that effectively span culture and language does not happen by chance. You need to:

  • determine where is Social, who is Open, and what is Mobile.
  • know who owns the interface for global mash-ups.
  • know what are the issues related to privacy, censorship, and filtering.
  • be aware of idiosyncrasies are for the Social Web in other cultures.

And, since Web 2.0 is mobile, you will need to be prepared by knowing about internationalization headaches with mobile devices.

This session will be an overview of globalization issues related to creating awesome global applications, and will take a look at some of the development processes used at Yahoo! to ensure that products are designed to be adaptable to many cultures.
