Justin Day helped get blip.tv off the ground in 2005 by leveraging 13 years of Internet software development experience and a from the ground up web framework still in use by the company today. He now leads a team of 11 engineers and oversees product, software and infrastructure. Justin’s other projects include linkfilter.net filter.net, an early community weblog created in 2000 which still has a small but loyal user base and JPLT an early technology blog created in 1998. Justin is also a member of the hacker collective NYC Resistor and is active in the tech and DIY communities.

In May Google introduced WebM and VP8, a new open-source video container and codec, to the world. These represent a significant step forward for the open-source video movement. In this session we'll discuss why WebM is important, compare it to other commercial solutions like MPEG-4 and h.264, and discuss viability, adoption and the challenges therein. Read more.
