Clustrix founding CEO and Isilon Co-Founder, Paul Mikesell, discusses a new database architecture and solution developed over the past three and a half years.
Clustrix is the technology leader in Clustered Database Systems (CDS) for Internet-scale applications. The Clustrix CLX 4010 is a highly scalable database solution that addresses the infrastructure scalability challenges facing Internet companies, enterprises, and cloud service providers.
This new solution brings to database administrators the best of both worlds: the high-performance, high-scalability of NoSQL key value stores and the relational, ACID-compliant and robust functionality of SQL—while providing drop-in interoperability with the MySQL protocol.

Paul is the CEO and one of the founders of Clustrix.
Prior to starting Clustrix, Paul was the founder and Director of Engineering at Isilon Systems, the proven leader in scale-out NAS storage solutions. After five years Isilon achieved the best opening performance for a technology IPO in the previous six years. Paul designed, architected, and developed all of Isilon’s products while building the Engineering team to 50 people, the company to 200 people, and revenue to $100M. He was responsible for many of Isilon’s key patents. As Director of Engineering he set and executed long-term architectural goals, as well as maintained a close relationship with Marketing, Sales, and customers to produce Isilon’s highly successful product roadmaps.
Before Isilon, Paul was Development Manager for all of RealNetworks infrastructure products, including RealServer, RealProxy/Cache, and the distributed Live Real Streaming system.
Paul earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington.
