Take your hacking skills “from zero to hero” by learning to install and modify WordPress, a simple yet powerful blogging tool which underlies nearly 80% of blogs. This hands-on workshop will teach you not only WordPress basics to get you up and running with a blog or website of your own, it will also provide an essential web technology orientation for non-geeks. (Bring a laptop!) So whether you’re looking to start a blog or hoping to be more conversant with the web developers in your organization, this workshop is for you.

Participants will be a given a free year of hosting for the blogs they create during the session, and they’ll learn:

  • How to install Wordpress
  • How to install and assess Wordpress plugins
  • How to install and modify themes
  • The basic concepts of the server
  • The basic concepts of the database
  • The basic concepts behind HTML, CSS, and PHP (the code behind Wordpress)
  • Where you can go from here!
