CSS is a frustration point for developers and engineers and a stumbling block for startups. Less is more in CSS, but less is hard to achieve. Learn how to write CSS that scales to thousands of pages or millions of users and results in leaner code, which is easier to both write and maintain. No matter what your JavaScript library of choice (JQuery, YUI, etc), learning the nuts and bolts of CSS will bring sanity to your development process. Learn how to leverage open source projects.

In this hands-on session, Nicole explores strategies for getting the UI under control. The session covers the nuts & bolts of CSS and includes a guided debugging session and live demo.

Learn how to:

  • Evaluate solutions and calculate complexity in CSS
  • Avoid a specificity war
  • Use multiple classes to simulate object inheritance and sub-typing

Nicole’s presentation was great – it contained lots of real practical advice for structuring style sheets in a logical method to prevent some common errors and problems (Spaghetti Code…) She also discussed some code that she has developed for templates and grids to help implement her methods – looking forward to trying them out. Hope the slides get posted somewhere soon…
