Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD. VHS vs. Beta. PC vs. Mac. AC vs. DC. As long as platforms have been a valuable resource, wars have been fought to control them. Eventually, either through trickery, persistence, or legislation, all wars come to an end. By understanding these wars, old and new, we’ll be better prepared to survive the next.

Rolf Skyberg is the team lead for Disruptive Innovation and Platform Evangelism at eBay Inc., helping to identify and develop innovative methods to improve on and off-platform business and buyer experiences. In his 3 years at eBay, he has the opportunity to contribute in a number of ways, from performing quality assurance to working as a part of eBay Research Lab. He has also filed patents around delivery confirmation, social commerce, fraud reporting and new commerce models.

Rolf has been a featured speaker at the Web 2.0 EXPO, OSCON, Emerce e.day, and IBM Research Labs. Rolf has a BS in Information Systems and Quantitative Analysis with additional studies in System Science. He has worked in technology since before the first dot.com bust and hopes to continue thinking up great ideas through the second boom.
