Joshua Porter (Bokardo and Chi.mp)
1:30pm Tuesday, 09/16/2008
Topic: Design & UX, Workshop
Location: 1A21 & 22

Whether you know it or not, communities exist around your product/service. Engaging them and providing a positive user experience is increasingly a competitive advantage. The question is: how can you design for it?

In this workshop, Joshua Porter will share best practices of designing for community, including the topics:

  • How to decide what social networking features to have, and not have.
  • Setting the tone with copywriting and design elements.
  • Writing rules and regulations in plain language.
  • What a Community Manager does and what they’re responsible for.
  • How to let the community police itself.
  • How to say you’re sorry when something bad happens.
  • The 10 habits of highly effective community managers.

In this talk Porter will cover the bases of designing for community. You’ll be armed with a valuable set of practices to implement with your own communities.
