Web Analytics and User Experience for Web 2.0 Apps

Andre Charland (Nitobi Inc.)
10:05 Wednesday, 22-10-2008
Location: B8-9

Web analytics tell the story of your web site: how many people visit your site, where they come from, what content they look at, and how they interact with you online. Without web analytics, you’re flying blind.

Web analytics are rapidly evolving beyond simple page view and visitor counts. There’s been an explosion of next-generation analytics technologies that measure new forms of engagement, and can interact with the slick, rich user interfaces of Web 2.0 web sites like Facebook and YouTube.

In this session, web usability expert Andre Charland, will demonstrate:

  • How monitoring user activity on web sites and within web applications can change the way you interact with site visitors and customers
  • What analytics say about usability and customer engagement
  • How to integrate analytics into Web 2.0 applications

Attendees will learn about new analytics technologies, including “mouse miles,” heat maps, storyboards, and cinelytics. Charland will demonstrate how some of these tools work and will discuss whether their results are worth the costs. After this session, attendees will have a new understanding of the importance of web analytics in measuring usability and customer engagement, and will be familiar with the latest in analytics theory, technologies, and tools.
