Learn how Prosper combines the best elements of Web 2.0 with a revenue model to breathe new life into the age-old concept of community lending. Prosper is built on the concept that people act more responsibly when operating within connected social circles. This is fundamental to a person-to-person lending company where individuals fund each other in an effort to borrow money at better rates than banks or credit cards and lend it for a better rate of return than money market or CD accounts. In addition to leveraging community as a way to ensure responsibility, Prosper has relied on its community for feedback on the service and to spread the gospel. So far, that word-of-mouth marketing has helped the company fund more than $20 million in loans since its launch in February of 2006.
